In 2020-2021, TRC the for-profit entity of iHRT received donations to both the clinic and specific individuals to receive therapy on an ongoing basis at a discount, or low to no-cost to the individual receiving services. The individuals receiving services were in the black and African American community specifically. Many, if not all, of these individuals were experiencing symptoms that include but are not limited to depression, anger, anxiety…as a result of the racially charged and traumatic events occurring in the media all over the country during that time.
Numerous individuals that could be identified as allies volunteered to donate to TRC or sponsor individuals to go to therapy. Additionally, individuals came to TRC in hopes of receiving some education through one-on-one coaching in the area of anti-racism, believing that this education would help equip them as allies to be a part of the racial trauma healing for themselves and others. Lastly, TRC also represented individuals in an advocacy role in both their schools and their workplace with the expectation to create a traumatic or triggering environment for BiPoC or their allies.
The work must continue. But the donations to the for profit have dissolved. In order to continue the work in the community, iHRT was established.
